President's Report - 11th June

Hi from the president

Will the rain ever stop, at the moment every time I think of going to the track it is wet outside, I know we need the rain though. Last Sunday was a wash out and even though the rain was falling it didn’t dampen the turnout too much, I am not sure of the exact number of people that turned up but it didn’t look to me to be far short of a full race day. We still had a good day even though the track never really dried out, bacon and eggs for breakfast and also a BBQ lunch before packing up and going home. I had a chance to do some wet weather testing with my new F104 with rubber tires on it and for an out of the box car it was nothing short of awesome, just a little under steer was evident but considering the conditions it made the car very easy to handle.

Our new transponders are on the way and should be here in time for the next race meeting and then after we have put the new set through a bit of testing to make sure all is good we will send the other set back to have the batteries replaced so the club will have two full working sets of transponders, hopefully in time for the Models & Hobbies 4 U Dandy Cup.

The working bee was a brilliant success with a dozen people in attendance, thank you for all those that came to lend a hand. We got through a lot of tidying up both inside and outside the container, painting and sorting through rubbish it was well over due for a tidy up, thanks again.

Round seven for the Autumn series is fast approaching basically every class is so close points wise that it is too early to tell who the winners are so this last round is going to be the decider, let’s hope for good weather and that I don’t leave my car sitting on the couch.

An addition to the existing track at the end of the pit straight has been designed and this will be used at the Trophy dash, also the trophies for the Autumn Series will be presented at the trophy dash. The Trophy Dash is designed to be a fun day as a bit of a wind down at the end of the autumn series it doesn’t matter if you win or lose it is all about driving your car and having fun.

Just a reminder about the table in front of the container at race meetings and cars and radios are to be placed on this table after each race and the driver is to go straight out to marshal, this is to enable us to find any transponders that haven’t been returned to the rack, and also hopefully help marshals to be at the marshalling points prior to the start of the following race. After the drivers have marshaled the race they can get their cars.

Upcoming events are on the 4th of July we are having a Midyear trophy dash, then on the 28th&29th of August we are hosting the inaugural Models & Hobbies 4 U Dandenong  Cup, a two day for details see the leaflet online or email me and I will send you a copy. Please note Saturday night we will be having a BBQ after racing finishes and also the drag races will be holding a meeting under lights with all welcome to enter and join in.

The last major event for the year will be the Ron Wilson Memorial on the 5th of December this will be a different format to normal meetings and hopefully be an enjoyable day of racing, details will be posted soon.

Always keep them shinny side up,

Darren Watts
